Full backup and restore — coming in Build 14
This feature is being prepared for release. These steps apply after you install the update that includes Backup and Restore. If you do not see that option, use the individual list transfer instructions below.
On your current phone
- Open Get Checked Off and tap the drive-shaped Backup and Restore button at the top of the main screen.
- Tap Back Up All Data.
- Choose Save to Files, select a folder in iCloud Drive, and save the JSON backup file.
- Check that the file is available in iCloud Drive. Make a fresh backup just before changing phones.
On your new phone
- Install a version of Get Checked Off that includes full backup and restore, and make sure you can access the same iCloud Drive folder.
- Tap Backup and Restore, then Restore Full Backup.
- Select the JSON backup file, review the list and folder counts, and tap Restore Backup.
- Check your lists, templates, folders, dates, and progress before erasing or trading in your old phone.
The backup includes active and completed lists, templates, folders, saved checked progress, job details, dates, saved unfinished item text, custom ordering, and the sort preference. It is a manual backup, not automatic syncing.
Matching list and folder IDs use the backup’s version; other existing records remain. A safety copy is saved on the device before restoring. You can also export a full backup before restoring to keep an accessible copy of your current data.
Full backup and restore do not require an active trial. Purchases are separate: use Restore Purchases with your purchasing Apple Account if you need to restore editing access. Keep backup files private because they may contain customer information.
Transfer individual lists in earlier versions
Earlier versions of Get Checked Off let you save and import individual editable lists and templates. It does not have a one-tap backup and restore for the whole app. Repeat these steps for every list and template you want to keep.
On your current phone
- Open a saved list or template. Finish adding any item you are still typing before exporting.
- Scroll to Share List with App User (or Share Template with App User) and tap it.
- Choose Save to Files, select a folder in iCloud Drive, and save the file. Keep the .getcheckedoff file extension.
- Repeat for each list and template, using distinct filenames so you keep every copy. Check that the files are available in iCloud Drive.
On your new phone
- Install and open Get Checked Off, with access to the iCloud Drive folder holding your saved files.
- If you previously purchased Full Unlock, open the trial/unlock screen and tap Restore Purchases using the same purchasing Apple Account. Importing requires an active trial or Full Unlock.
- Tap the import button (a downward arrow into a tray) on the main list screen and select a saved .getcheckedoff file.
- Review the Import Copy screen, choose a destination folder if desired, and tap Import.
- Repeat for your other lists and templates. Verify their contents and progress before erasing or trading in your old phone.
What this transfer includes
The editable file carries the list or template and its saved items, including checked progress and saved job details. Folder assignments and unfinished text in the new-item field are not included. Recreate folders on the new phone and choose a folder when importing.
Each import creates an independent copy; it does not replace an existing list. Importing the same file again can create duplicates. There is no automatic syncing between copies.
PDF exports are for reading, sharing, or printing. They cannot restore an editable checklist. Restoring purchases restores access, not your lists. Keep your saved files private because they may include customer and work-order details.
